Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 10, 2026
Skipper (“the Extension”) helps you skip or fast-forward advertisements on supported streaming websites. This policy explains what data the Extension accesses, stores, and transmits.
Data we access
- Settings you choose — toggle preferences (e.g. skip Prime ads, skip YouTube promos) are stored locally in Chrome sync storage.
- Supported website pages — the Extension runs only on Hotstar, Amazon Prime Video, and YouTube pages listed in the Extension manifest. It reads page DOM elements needed to detect and skip ads.
- YouTube captions (optional feature) — to detect creator promo segments, the Extension may read publicly available caption text and video description from the YouTube watch page you are viewing.
Data we transmit
-
YouTube promo detection service — when you open a YouTube watch page and creator-promo skipping is enabled, caption words, timestamps, video ID, and video description may be sent to our backend at
youtube-skip-ads-please-oregon.onrender.comto identify sponsored segments. No account login is required. - Crowdsourced promo reports — if you manually report a promo segment (when that feature is enabled), start/end times and video ID may be sent to the same service.
Data we do not collect
- We do not require you to create an account.
- We do not collect your name, email, or payment information through the Extension.
- We do not track your browsing history outside the supported sites above.
- We do not sell personal data.
Data storage
Settings are stored via chrome.storage.sync. YouTube promo detection results
are cached locally in chrome.storage.local for up to 2 hours per video to
reduce network requests.
Third parties
The Extension interacts with streaming sites you visit (Hotstar, Amazon, YouTube) and our promo-detection API hosted on Render. Those services have their own privacy policies.
Children
The Extension is not directed at children under 13.
Changes
We may update this policy. The “Last updated” date will change when we do.
